Germ Free Hands For A Better Health

January 31st, 2010 · No Comments · Wellness, Fitness and Diet

Does your child fall sick often? Are you facing cold and sore throats each time the school reopens after vacations? Have you thought why this is happening and if you can prevent it? What measures will help you protect your child from repeated illness?

Illness is caused by germs. Germs are present everywhere and are easily transferred with contact. Children pick up these germs at school from the other students. They use common equipments and space which eases the spread of germs. Moreover dirty hands contaminate the food they eat causing illness. Clean hands are essential to maintain good health and they are not that difficult to achieve. A few small measures can easily eliminate and reduce the germs present on the hands of your child. These measures are good for you and for your child.

Germs spread easily with contact and can survive for hours or days on objects. This makes it easy for children to pick up germs. They fall ill frequently if their immune system is not strong enough to ward off the ill effects of these germs. Children not only pick up germs but also transfer them to other objects that they touch, thus spreading the disease causing germs. A classic example is germs spreading cold. It is frequently seen that if one child in the class has cold then the others will soon develop a cold.

Clean hands are essential to stop germs from spreading. Hand soaps and cleansers can be used effectively to not just remove dirt but also kill germs from your child’s and your hands. This prevents spreading of germs.

Hand Sanitizers

Hand sanitizers are a clean and dry way to kill certain germs on your hands. Most hand sanitizers contain 40% ethanol which is effective in killing germs and thus prevents spreading. People who use hand sanitizers are 59% less likely to fall sick as compared to those who don’t use hand sanitizers.

Make sure that a hand sanitizer is at hand wherever you are. Keep one in your purse, car and even the diaper bag. Use it whenever soap and water are not readily available. It’s quite normal to find soaps missing in public rest rooms. The hand sanitizer comes to your rescue in such situations. Take a small amount and spread on both the hands to kill off germs. There is no need to rinse it as it dries and rids you of germs.

Anti bacterial Hand Wash

Anti bacterial hand washes and soaps are deemed less effective in comparison to hand sanitizers. But the fact is that it is not the product but the way it is used that makes it less effective. Most of us use soap to lather our hands and rinse off immediately. The right procedure would be to leave the lather for about a minute before rinsing it. A simple way to do it would be to start singing the ABC song in your mind when you start lathering. Rinse off after finishing the song.

Using the right cleansers the right way, makes all the difference!
