They make it impossible for a person to remain in the restaurant until everyone is ready to go. A smoker cannot sit through a movie at the theater and constantly needs to leave the building for a fix. A smoker is sometimes forced by the cigarette to stand outside in the cold or rain.
The trick is to start hating the cigarette. If you can hate the cigarette enough to realize it is the enemy and you are stronger, you will have the power to resist it. The trick to stop smoking naturally comes in three parts. The first part is knowing that you are ready to try to quit. The second part is admitting that you are sick of the cigarette controlling you. If you have already tried to quit but it only lasted for a few days, congratulations. That is the first step. Sometimes you need to try again.
