Reasons that You Need to Stop Smoking Naturally

December 15th, 2009 · No Comments · Quit Smoking

For those who smoke, quitting may seem as though it is not even an option because when they tried and failed, it became an impossible feat. However, you can stop smoking naturally and remain a nonsmoker for the rest of your life. You can do this without chemically formulated drugs and patches that have some side effects that are as dangerous as those of smoking.

When you smoke, you are not only doing it out of the satisfaction that your brain chemical dopamine is signaling to you. You’re smoking because you have in your subconscious mind that you are not going to be the one who gets cancer or those heart attacks happen to someone else, not you. You are smoking because you look forward to relaxing with that cigarette after dinner or at break time at work. You will have to retrain your subconscious mind into not liking anything that surrounds smoking.

You are going to have to have a whole lot of will power to retrain your subconscious mind into despising smoking and everything that surrounds it. Some people do this through hypnosis and some are able to do it without even realizing that is what they are doing. You need to write notes and post them everywhere with the reasons why you don’t want to smoke. Read them every time you see them.

Aromatherapy and meditation works well together for calming nerves and relaxing while you are trying to stop smoking. You will be able to smell much better and breathe much better so these are the two things you need to concentrate on when you are meditating. You will be amazed at the difference in these two things in even a week of not smoking.

You need to remember that your body is addicted to nicotine and you will have to get your mind to overpower these horrible symptoms. This is what the willpower is all about. You have to keep up front in your mind the picture of you as a nonsmoker. Surround that mental picture with the positive parts of not smoking. This is going to be a tough time so steel yourself beforehand.

You call in the troops to help you to stop smoking naturally. These troops are in the form of some herbs. You can use St. John’s Wort to ward off the anxiety and depression that is associated with nicotine withdrawal. You can Skullcap for calming your nerves and easing the cravings as well. The herb Valerian works well for the nerves and for help with cravings as well. You can obtain all of these at most natural food stores.

One activity that you probably didn’t engage in a lot while you were smoking is exercise. You should try walking around your neighborhood when you start craving a cigarette, start dancing to your favorite music. Whatever it takes to get your blood pumping is what you need to do because the ‘good rush’ you will get from exercise is from natural adrenaline in your body, not nicotine.

Taking to someone who is trying to stop smoking naturally as well is great support and will sometimes be what gets you through the hardest times. Contact a counselor or support group in your area for this reason.
