An allergic reaction may be at the root of your problem if you have to contend with frequent episodes of watery nose, continuous sneeze or cough or itchy, red skin rashes. This reaction is our body’s way of resisting to some external allergen. Of the many factors that result in allergies, the most common ones are food items like milk, soy,, dairy products, peanuts etc, external agents like dust, smoke or pollution or other kinds of substances like dog fur, pollen and even medicinal drugs.
Self medication and diagnosis are both highly risky and undesirable in case of allergies, for which the first thing that must be done by the person is to immediately consult a medical professional. Once the exact allergen, which is the culprit behind all the allergy, is identified, it becomes quite easy for the doctor to prescribe the correct medicines.
The more common and affordable forms of treatment are antihistamines and anti allergy medications which are recommended by physicians and specialists. However, prevention of any allergic reaction is always better than cure. Wearing a protective face mask in dusty conditions, for instance, while cleaning the residence or stepping out in a dust-filled environment, can keep your allergy at bay if it is triggered by dust particles. Allergy causing agents can also be greatly controlled by air purifiers at your home.
Make sure that you keep track of drugs you are allergic to and intimate the same to the health care adviser before he writes out a prescription. Allergies from food can easily be controlled by focusing on what you eat and being very particular about avoiding food items which have triggered allergies earlier.
In case your allergies are so severe that they result in considerable disruption of normal life, or medicines are not working adequately or you wish to prevent another attack due to other reasons, you can ask your doctor to advise vaccination to control the allergy. This way you would not have to shut yourself up in your room to avoid the allergy inducing agents.
